I was randomly reading the Articles from the LiveSTRONG page and I found this article. Pretty thought-provoking for those who love to exercise. The links are up and I summarised a little bit about the article.
Drawbacks Of Aerobic Exercise and How To Prevent Them, Part 1:
1. Oxidative Stress
2. Elevated Cortisol Production
3. Lowered Testosterone and HGH Levels
This is, as suggested by the author, a form of chemical castration for men. Oooh, interesting.
4. Increased Appetite and Binge Eating Patterns
5. Excessive Muscular Fatigue
6. Conversion of Fast-Twitch Muscle Fibers to Slow-Twitch
7. Burns a Relatively Small Amount of Calories vs. Time Spent
8. Overuse Injuries to the Feet, Ankles and Knees
This may be made worse by wearing shoes with high shock-resistant technology (I suppose) that prevents pain even after muscular overuse. Dangerous.
9. Shortening (Deformation) of Muscle Tissue From Repetitive Mid-range (Partial Range) Movements
10. Adrenal Burnout
Drawbacks Of Aerobic Exercise and How To Prevent Them, Part 2:
Basically, the author advocates a balanced workout of all kinds, ranging from aerobic to anaerobic with a lot of rests in between workouts. Workout difficulties should run from extremely intensed to extremely easy. He debunked the misunderstood idea of struggling through a consistent workout plan as it may deteriorate your fitness level instead of improving it. So in a nut-shell, do:
1. Maintain Aerobic Heart-Rates at 75% of maximum
2. Fluctuate Stress and Rest Cycles
3. Cross-Train
4. Rest to actually allow body to become fit
Today I went to CMPB for my NS Medical Check-up. Well, I got A grades for everything but since I didn't have my report for my elbow dislocation and also I asked to do an X-Ray for my lumbar vertebrae because I've been experiencing lower-back aches for half a year already, I'm currently pending at D. Will need to go back again. Sian...
I know, this year doesn't seem like a good year for my health.
Besides, there's another anomalous observation that I've made which isn't very convenient for me to say here.
Ah, time to go. I need to turn into a mugger soon.
I welcome all doubters,
Sean
